The bug.
A familiar meal carries memories, habits and a sense of belonging. We recognise its colours, anticipate its flavours and bring our own history to the table.
For someone with swallowing difficulties, much of this can disappear. Food becomes a consistency to be managed. Meals are assessed for nutrition and ease of consumption, while the person eating may gradually lose the anticipation that once made mealtimes pleasurable.
SilverConnect had developed moulded, puréed food to address this need. But the way the business presented itself did not fully express the value of what it offered. The clinical language of the category left little room for appetite, independence or the quiet dignity of enjoying a familiar dish.
Our task was to give that human value a clear place in the brand.
The strategic decision.
We began with a question: What does a person lose when eating becomes difficult?
The answer extended beyond the food itself. There was the pleasure of choosing. The comfort of recognition. The ability to participate in a family meal without feeling that a separate life had been arranged for you.
This understanding shaped the promise: Bringing Back the Appetite for Life.
It gave the business a direction that could speak to the diner, reassure the caregiver and remain credible to the healthcare professional. Safety and nutrition remained essential. Familiarity, enjoyment and dignity gave people a reason to care about the difference.
It also opened a commercial possibility. Birthdays still arrived. Families still celebrated. The desire for a favourite dessert remained. These occasions belonged within the brand’s ambition.
What changed.
We renamed SilverConnect GentleFoods. The name brought care and food into the same thought, creating a foundation for a warmer, more approachable identity.
We developed the visual and verbal language around familiar food and the pleasure of eating. Packaging for individual bento meals and bulk formats translated the positioning into the product experience. The e-commerce website, social campaigns, signage, uniforms and delivery bags carried the same understanding into the places where people encountered the business.
A “Living the Brand” workshop helped employees and internal stakeholders understand the promise and their role in delivering it.
We also helped identify and shape the opportunity for puréed desserts and birthday cakes. This extended the offer into occasions that the category had largely overlooked, connecting product development with a deeper understanding of people’s lives.
Evidence of the result.
GentleFoods gained a distinct name, a coherent identity and a proposition that connected its food innovation with a recognisable human need.
The dessert and celebration ranges broadened the occasions for purchase and helped increase cart value. They gave the business a practical way to grow through the promise it had made.
Across its products, communications and customer experience, GentleFoods could now express the fuller value of its work: helping people retain the familiarity, pleasure and participation that make food part of life.
